Hey everyone, I want to talk about something I’ve been passionate about for years—my vision for ending poverty in America. I had plans to run for president a few years ago, but like so many of you, I’m too poor to even dream about that right now. But if I could run today, here’s what I’d do.
My plan would be to give every American adult $2,000 a month—forever. That’s a Universal Basic Income, or UBI, and it would ensure that nobody in this country goes hungry or has to struggle just to survive.
Let’s talk about the math. We’ve got around 258 million adults in the U.S., and if we gave each of them $2,000 a month, that comes out to about $6.19 trillion a year. Now, I know that sounds huge, but consider this: over the last three years alone, the federal government has already spent nearly $20 trillion.
In 2021, it spent about $6.82 trillion—mainly because of COVID relief. In 2022, it was $6.27 trillion, and in 2023, it’s looking like about $6.4 trillion. If we can spend that much on war, defense, and various other programs, why can’t we invest that same amount to lift people out of poverty permanently?
Imagine the impact $2,000 a month would have on families, students, and even small businesses. People could actually breathe. That’s what I’d do if I could run for president today. But just because I can’t run right now, doesn’t mean the fight is over. Together, we can still push for big changes like this.
